NAFGEM works in collaboration with the local governments, institutions, and communities we operate in. The organization is a member of the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance and the National Coalition Against Female Genital Mutilation, which is comprised of 8 likeminded organizations. Other members include Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC), Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT), World Vision, Women Wake-up (WOWAP), Tanzania Media Women Association (TAMWA), Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Network (AFNET), and Dodoma Inter-African Committee (DIAC).
In order to care for and support women and girls who have already undergone FGM, NAFGEM Tanzania has partnered with local surgical and legal referral services in areas where FGM prevalence is high. NAFGEM works with Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) in identifying and assisting women with fistula in FGM practicing areas. Recently, NAFGEM started working with local organizations in Kilimanjaro dealing with women’s rights, child protection, and HIV/AIDS prevention to form a regional coalition on women and children safety issues.
