Law Enforcers Ending FGM & Abuse
Law enforcers at village to district levels are very important in ensuring the laws are in place and well understood. They are required to make sure friendly justice systems are in place and accessible by any community member. In workshops by the law enforcers their roles and responsibilities to protect women and girls as well as punishing perpetrators of FGM and child marriage are reinforced.
NAFGEM has trained police and magistrates, village and district executive officers and other civil servants from the district education, health and community development departments. Through training and advocacy for friendly services Police Gender Desks have been established at regional and district levels.
NAFGEM works hand in hand with them to ensure women and children receive prompt and appropriate services. There is need to continue with support to these desks and facilitate expansion to the remote areas.
